Plot
Imprisoned in Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, Divine G finds meaning in performing in a theater group alongside other incarcerated men in this story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. At the beginning of a film in which the actors rehearse various parts of the play.

The group has been criticized for not doing comedy, but their previous play was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which is a comedy. Starring Late Night with Seth Meyers: Anna Faris/Colman Domingo/Jose Medeles (2024).
I saw this film last night at a blind screening at our local theater complex
I probably wouldn’t have chosen to see it if I had known what it was, but I’m glad I did. Its strengths are the moving and honest portrayals of some of the participants in the program it portrays (notably Clarence Maclin and Sean Johnson) and the work of Colman Domingo.
The cinematography and direction add honesty to the performances by not overpowering them and by using an approach that makes the viewer witness the conversations and events rather than consume them
Thought provoking. Understated.
